SEASON III (Episode 10)
END OF THE MONTH SPECIAL

FOOD FOR PURPOSE?
The firstborn of a set of twins, a great, mighty and skillful hunter, was just returning from the bush. He had toiled all day in search of game all to no avail, so he returned home greatly famished. Now as he was entering the compound of his father’s house he perceived a very sweet aroma coming from the side of his twin brother’s hut. The sweet smelling savour made him desperately wanting to eat. Without hesitation, he quickly went to his brother and seeing him cooking some red stew, he desperately demanded, “Quick, let me have some of that red stew! I’m famished!”
“If you really want this red stew that I’ve suffered to prepare, then you’d have to first sell me your birthright.” His greedy brother who was also known as a grabber or deceiver requested.
“You are damn too funny!” Esau laughed his brother Jacob to scorn. “What sought of a brother are you? I said I am starving to death and here you are requesting for my birthday or birthright or whatever... To hell with it! What good is the birthright to me right now?”
But Jacob was still adamant, “Swear to me first.”
So he swore an oath to his brother, selling his birthright to Jacob. Then Jacob, satisfied about the whole thing, gave him some bread and some red stew. Esau ate and filled his stomach to the brim and left...
Esau left but not as the same person again. He left empty and totally vain for he sold his purpose in life for a momentary pleasure of some common stew. As the firstborn, he was supposed to be the inheritor and the carrier of all his fathers’ blessings, but he was too myopic, for in his eyes THE RED STEW WAS GREATER THAN HIS PURPOSE. And so Jacob became great and Esau served the house of Jacob together with all his generations.
Beloved, what is that thing (not necessarily food) that you have prioritized over your purpose in life? Is it the pleasure that the adventure of pre-marital sex is presently giving you? Is it the pleasure that you are enjoying from wayward friends who are ready to encourage you in doing all things known to be bad and evil in the sight of God? Is it the pleasure of youthful lust for money and fame? Is it the pleasure that you are deriving from laziness or realistically, the desperate, ungodly cravings for food and other pleasures of life? No matter what they are, they are and can never be greater than your purpose in life, but they can be great enough to destroy it. So why would you sell your divine purpose in exchange for all these temporary things?! Preserve your purpose; preserve your life.
Shallom!
