THE MARVELS OF GRACE
SEASON III (Episode 9)

FACT ABOUT LOVE
I shared an article about Love a fortnight back. Today, we’ll try and consider another important fact about love:

Love is an Action Word
An action word or more preferably a VERB is a word (part of speech) that in syntax conveys an action, an occurrence, or a state of being. Love is an action word. It thrives in action. It can only realistically function in action. Love is not emotion or an intention – it is a choice that binds us to a distinctive course of action. Why is love an action word? Because God commanded us to love! It’s only an action word that can be commanded… God commanded us to love Him with the whole of our hearts, minds and souls and also to love our neighbours as we love ourselves.

So if we say we have love and it’s not being reflected in our actions, then we don’t really have love. I John 3:18 states;

“Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.”

So do we really love like the quote above – with actions and in truth? Unfortunately, reverse is the case as to what we call love these days. For our so called kind of love is full of mere feelings, mere words and empty promises.  I John 3:17 says;

“If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him?”

How often have we seen a friend in need and failed to help such even if what will comfort him/her is within our reach. God showed the greatest action of all time in seeing the need for the salvation of human souls and acting promptly by offering the gift of Christ, His own dear son. What a great sacrifice! This is how God wants us to act… this is how God wants us to love. A love that is devoid of actions is ungodly.

"This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers." 1 John 3:16

True love is hard to find in the world because people do not want to take the risks that their actions would bring. My dear, if people tell you they love you but their actions are exactly the opposite of their words then you need not do anything than to take their words with a pinch of salt because it is only in actions and not mere words that love is tested. So many Nigerians claim to love their country, but do their actions portray their confession. Are their behaviours of corruption and bad governance not really drawing this country backwards? To believers who love criticizing politicians – how often do we go on our knees to pray for our leaders and this nation? This is high time for believers to love sinners in such in a way that we wouldn’t want anyone to stay under the control of the devil. Instead of judging and criticizing people let’s correct them in love and share the message of the gospel with them. GOD loves sinners; it is the sin in them that He hates. As believers we don’t really love our wayward friends if we have not really taken action by sharing the message of the gospel with them.

Determine today to love people around you with a GODLY love – a LOVE WHICH THRIVES IN ACTION.

Peace!
